Software of the Dungeon
Running a Dungeons and Dragons campaign across the internet can be daunting to start. We wanted to take the time to show you some of the tools that use every week to bring the best Dungeons and Dragons content to your screen.
Foundry VTT
For hosting maps, tokens, and everything else in a virtual environment, there is nothing better than Foundry VTT. With many user created modules that can be added to the software, you'll have the tools you need to run a successful campaign.
Foundry VTT also offers the ability for your players to log into their characters and only see what their character can actually see, giving another level of realism to your campaign.
D&D Beyond
From Dungeon Master tools to Character creation, D&D Beyond has all the options you need to run or play in a successful campaign. It has many easy to use tools from searching for spells to looking up class abilities.
We use the Master Tier so we can share the content between our players but the Free level will have everything you need to get started playing or running a campaign.
Dungeon Alchemist
When it comes to building maps for your adventures to dive down into, nothing is better than the newly released Dungeon Alchemist. Create beautiful, detailed maps quickly using AI room building. Dungeon Alchemist will generate a 3D map that is highly customizable and exports to a 2D, Limited 3D, or 3D map for your favorite VTT. Dungeon Alchemist can even export a video file so you can see the smoke rising from those potions in the corner.
Wonderdraft
Wonderdraft is a great tool for creating your worlds. It is a large scale map builder that allows you to build your islands and coastlines with ease. Through a simple set of tools there are a variety of styles and colors to choose from to make map building easy.
While this software may be less used than others, it is an important tool for creating those custom campaign settings.
VoiceMod
Nobody like a silly voice more than we do, but after a few hours of voices, it can leave your voice strained and hurt. This is where VoiceMod comes in. Using it's easy to use interface, you can add echoes, or change your voice completely with their new AI voice changing tools.
While not a must-have piece of software, it's a great tool that we have come to enjoy for those serious and ominous situations, to the silly and fun.
Zoom
The Final piece of software is for actually meeting and seeing each other. While there are several options on the market, Zoom has been a leader for years. Giving you the ability to share your screen, share music to your players, move windows and many other options, Zoom has everything in one easy to use package.
The downside of using Zoom is the cost. If you are not streaming, you can get by easily with the Free version, but anymore than that and you'll have to look at an annual subscription.
